WIP UPCYCLING PROJECT
PERSONAL BRIEF
Through an impulse facebook marketplace purchase, I came into possession of a seat from the old Glasgow Subway rolling stock with the intention of designing and building a frame around it. These iconic moquette patterned seats travelled around Glasgow from the 1970s until they were decomissioned in 2023.
I have been sketching and prototyping different ways to repurpose these cushions into a household chair inspired by their original context as well as furniture of the era they were first designed. Influenced by my time volunteering at Glasgow Wood, I decided it would be interesting to design aspects of this chair using repurposed scaffolding boards to reduce the amount of virgin material being used.
