ITALIAN DESIGN 1950-1970

I would generally say I am not a massive fan of plastics. As we’ve gone through the years of this course the one thing that keeps coming up is sustainable design, and I don’t particularly think there is anything sustainable about plastics. Doing another plastics based project has got me thinking about some of the positives of plastics. There are some things you simply can’t do without plastics, and that’s the problem we face today. Now that we use them, its difficult not to.

I was looking a bit into Joe Columbo after the design pop quiz and was amazed about the amount of plastics innovation coming from Italy around the time. So here you go, moral and ethical questions aside, here are my opinions on some of Italies most famous designs from the 1950s-1970s.
